PLAYGROUND FRIENDS

The job of a playground friend is to look out for children who are lonely, upset or falling out. They are trained not to intervene in a fight, but to find an adult. They have a ‘friendship stop’ which children can stand near if they would like to see them.

Playground friends are trained at the end of year 5 by Mrs Green, the learning mentor, ready to start in year 6. They are identifiable by their yellow playground friend cap and a badge.

There is a rota, each child being ‘on duty’ one day a week. The team consists of 10 children, 2 children a day being on duty. Mrs Green has weekly meetings with them to support them.
